Think you found a great deal on a yacht charter? Think again! That ‘starting at’ price you see online is rarely what you’ll pay.

Here’s why…

In the Caribbean

In the Caribbean, the ‘starting at’ price on a catamaran is often based on just 2 guests. If you’re traveling with 10 people on a 10-person yacht, the price will be higher because rates are scaled per guest.

Power yachts, unlike catamarans, require APA on top of the base rate to cover costs like food, alcohol, fuel, and other expenses, which can add another 35-40% to the advertised rate.

In the Mediterranean

In the Mediterranean, ‘starting at’ refers to the low-season rate—think May or October. But even then, two major costs are added on top of the base charter rate for ALL boats: VAT, the country tax that ranges from 5.2% – 24% depending on the country, and APA, the Advanced Provisioning Allowance, which covers fuel, food, drinks, and more.

So, while that initial price might look tempting, 95% of the time, you’ll end up paying more. Knowing these details ensures there are no surprises when planning your dream yacht vacation!
