One of the most common questions people ask when they are about to book a yacht is:
‘How do refunds work.’
In this video, I break down refund policies under the MYBA charter contract, so you know exactly where you stand before you book.
Under the MYBA contract used for nearly all boats in Europe and the Mediterranean, refunds are not automatically guaranteed unless specific conditions are met. Here’s when you might be eligible:
If you just decide you want to cancel, you will lose any money you have paid for the charter at that point. This is where travel insurance comes in handy because it can protect you if you cancel for reasons covered by your policy.
If the yacht becomes unusable (due to mechanical failure or damage, you can:
✅ Get a replacement yacht of similar or better quality.
✅ Receive a pro-rata refund for lost days.
✅ In some extreme cases, receive a full refund if no alternative is found.
What if there’s Bad Weather?
Yacht charters operate rain or shine unless the captain deems conditions unsafe which means you can expect itinerary changes rather than cancellations.
Situations like natural disasters, pandemics, and political unrest fall under Force Majeure—but refunds are not guaranteed unless the owner agrees. In most cases, you can rebook different dates but that is why we recommend travel insurance. It covers trip cancellations, medical emergencies, and interruptions.
Yacht charters are an incredible experience, but understanding the refund rules is crucial. If you have more questions, reach out and if you found this helpful, hit like follow, or subscribe for more insider tips.
