Rascal is a traditional handmade phinisi yacht built in 2015 in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Measuring 30m overall, she accommodates up to 10 guests across 5 cabins and 4spacious common areas. With an interior that evokes a laid-back luxury vibe reminiscent of the Hamptons, Rascal feels like a spacious floating villa. Rascal has been meticulously handmade using ironwood and teak by our friends the Hajis–a family of master craftsmen from Tanah Beru, Sulawesi. Older phinisis traditionally featured sails, but all modern cruising yachts now feature engines capable of 6-8 knots that render them purely cosmetic, so, with Rascal, we took the ground-breaking decision to remove the masts in order to maximise space and allow light-filled cabins above deck for all guests. She also features a uniquely expansive roof deck: the perfect place for a group sunrise yoga session or to enjoy sunset cocktails and canapes. On board Rascal, every detail has been considered to allow guests to explore off-grid Indonesia in absolute comfort. A good night’s sleep can make or break a vacation and so we use luxuriant mattresses, bedding and linen from King Koil. Ever keen to make you feel at home on the high seas, you’ll find all furniture is custom-made, and the interior detailed with warm, welcoming naturally sourced materials such as bamboo, mother-of-pearl, fan shell and marble. We handpick artworks and handicrafts from Timor, Sulawesi, Lombok, Borneo and beyond, and also use orchids, cacti and succulents to add soft touches of green to the Rascal palette and bring the natural world indoors. All our cabins feature organic, biodegradable and reef-safe toiletries. All single-use plastics have been removed and replaced with natural materials such as wood and glass. At an operational level, we’re one of the few vessels in Indonesia with eco-friendly sewage treatment units on board. Our ship’s waste oil is captured by our oil-water separators and is recorded and delivered to marine authorities in each harbour of operation. Finally, we have noise-cancelling boxes on all our engines so as not to disturb the wildlife we are privileged to share our journey with as we sail through the islands of Indonesia.
