Growing up land-locked on a large horse ranch in the interior of British Columbia, finding a career at sea was not something he ever dreamed of. However, learning skills and a hard work ethic from his dad, sent him on a journey to experience places he never knew existed. Alaska, Galapagos, Iceland, Norway, and Central America for example. Watching ancient glaciers calve, free diving between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, or scuba diving with massive schools of Hammerhead sharks weren’t things kids talked about while riding horseback tending fences and working the ranch. While growing up in -40C winters keeps Canada in his heart with snow and ice still in his veins, he calls the village of Skene in the Northeast of Scotland home having moved there with his dog Buddha six years ago.
His story of finding his way into becoming a maritime engineer is much too long for print here, but it was a path he seemed destined to take that to this day, keeps him realizing his dreams. As Chief Engineer of Solace he manages the safe and efficient operation of all equipment and machinery on board. A job that takes a lot of organization and coordination to ensure the crew can do all they can to provide the highest level of service to all of Solace’s guests. With the common goal of providing incredible experiences that live in memories for years to come. Although he takes his job seriously, you always find him in a happy mood and crinkles in the corner of his eyes that tell the story of someone who’s spent their whole life smiling and laughing with family and friends, both old and new.
