Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and raised in nearby Pompano Beach, Captain Steve Schlapkohl has spent his life connected to the sea. With over 30 years of yachting experience since beginning his career in 1992, he holds a 1600-Ton Upon Oceans license and has commanded vessels ranging from 60 to 206 feet.
Steve’s extensive cruising experience spans the U.S. East Coast, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, with one of his most memorable adventures being a summer spent exploring Alaska’s Inside Passage. Known for his calm professionalism and welcoming personality, Steve takes pride in introducing guests to both the yacht and the cruising grounds, ensuring every charter is safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable.
Outside of yachting, Steve leads an active lifestyle, enjoying mountain and road cycling, scuba diving, and traveling. A man of many talents, he is also a licensed commercial airplane and helicopter pilot, reflecting his lifelong passion for exploration and precision.

Hailing from Long Island, New York, Emily brings warmth, creativity, and professionalism to her role as Chief Stewardess aboard M/Y CANOE CANOE. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and Business from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, and spent several years bartending before embarking on her yachting career.
Emily is certified with a 100-ton license, Silver Service training, and Food Handlers Safety certification, and has experience on both private and charter yachts. She loves meeting guests and curating unforgettable onboard experiences, turning each trip into a dream vacation.
Outside of yachting, Emily enjoys painting, drawing, scuba diving, and outdoor adventures. Her happiest moments are spent with family, and she’s known for her caring nature — especially with children, having babysat for many years.
Her favorite part of yachting is traveling the world and discovering places she’s never seen before.

Emily Spoering
Chief steward/ess
Born in Manitoba, Canada, Krystal brings energy, enthusiasm, and a love for people to her role as Second Stewardess aboard M/Y CANOE CANOE. Before joining the yachting industry, she worked as a 5th-grade teacher, drawing on her background in Physical Education, Biology, and Education, holding dual Bachelor’s degrees in those fields.
She later transitioned into yachting, earning her STCW and Food Handler Safety certifications, and has since gained experience on both private and charter yachts. Krystal’s favorite part of the job is meeting new people and creating a welcoming, enjoyable environment for guests.
An active spirit both on land and at sea, Krystal loves sports, exercise, and learning new things. She describes her best yachting experience as seeing the world—and her best life experience as too many to choose from.
Fun fact: Krystal can kind of juggle and even clog dance—skills that perfectly capture her upbeat and adventurous personality.

Krystal Drain
Stewardess
Born in New York and raised in Florida, Conrad brings a wealth of diverse experience and a dynamic skill set to his role as Deckhand aboard M/Y CANOE CANOE. Before entering yachting, he built a successful career with Carrier Corporation in Charlotte, NC, managing global sourcing and supply chain operations for the commercial HVAC division.
Conrad holds dual degrees — a BSBA in Global Management and a BA in History from Bucknell University — as well as a USCG 100GT Master License. Since transitioning into yachting, he has served on both private and charter yachts as First Mate and Chase Boat Captain, combining strong leadership with a passion for the sea.
His favorite aspects of working on charter yachts include team camaraderie, stunning destinations, and unforgettable sunrises and sunsets. Outside of work, Conrad enjoys rowing, hiking, clay and trap shooting, fishing, hunting, snorkeling, reading, music, and movie quoting, along with a strong interest in wildlife and ocean conservation.
Among his most memorable experiences are living in Europe, exploring diverse cultures and cuisines, and outrunning a hurricane at sunset — a moment both breathtaking and humbling.
Fun fact: Conrad is a semi-professional sandcastle builder, an enthusiastic karaoke performer, and a formidable pool player — a true mix of talent, humor, and adventure.
Born in Saigon, Vietnam, and raised in Australia, Chef Trang brings a unique blend of cultural influences and creative artistry to her culinary style aboard M/Y CANOE CANOE. Before entering the yachting industry, she spent eight years in the fashion industry as a Production Manager and Product Developer, where she honed her attention to detail, precision, and aesthetic sensibility—skills that now translate beautifully into her cuisine.
Educated in Fashion Design and holding her STCW certification, Trang has since built a successful career in yachting, working aboard vessels ranging from 30 to 95 meters. Her favorite part of charter life is meeting diverse guests from around the world and crafting memorable dining experiences that reflect global flavors and fresh creativity.
Trang finds inspiration through travel, music, art, and the simple joy of discovery. She describes both her best life and yachting experiences as the same — traveling the world and seeing its most beautiful corners.
Her cuisine embodies her personal philosophy: refined yet soulful, inspired by exploration, and always made with heart.

Trang Nguyen

Born and raised in the beautiful island nation of St. Lucia, Captain Joel Ambrose developed a lifelong connection to the sea from an early age. After earning his Associate’s Degree in Marine Technology and Vessel Operations from New York Maritime College, Joel entered the yachting world in 2003 — a career sparked by a part-time job aboard a yacht during his college years.
With over two decades of experience, Joel holds a 500-ton license and has worked across both private and charter vessels, running trips from New England to Miami, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. In addition to his captaincy aboard M/Y CANOE CANOE, he also manages a company overseeing multiple yachts.
Captain Joel’s favorite aspect of chartering is the lifestyle — meeting new people, sharing unforgettable experiences, and ensuring every guest has an incredible time on board. When he’s not at the helm, you’ll find him fishing, traveling, or enjoying life by the water.
His most memorable yacht moments always bring him back home to the Caribbean, where his love for the ocean first began.

Joel Ambrose
Captain
Born and raised in St. Lucia, Denney brings a strong technical background and a passion for the ocean to his role as First Mate aboard M/Y CANOE CANOE. Before entering yachting, he worked with the St. Lucian government at WASCO and earned certifications in Plumbing, Building Technology, and AutoCAD.
Since joining the yachting industry — which he calls his best life decision — Denney has gained extensive experience on both private and charter vessels throughout the Caribbean. He holds a 200-ton MCA license and Powerboat Level 2 certification, combining professional skill with hands-on expertise.Denney’s favorite part of chartering is interacting with guests, leading excursions, and ensuring everyone enjoys their time on the water. Outside of work, he’s an avid scuba diver, spear fisherman, free diver, and runner.
A true all-rounder both on and off deck, Denney is known for his upbeat energy, love for the sea, and, as he proudly jokes, his secret skill — doing his own laundry.

Denney Samson
First Officer
Born in Trelawny, Jamaica, Oshain grew up with a natural interest in mechanics and engineering. Before joining the yachting industry, he built a strong technical foundation working as a power plant technician and operator, developing a deep understanding of high-demand systems and precision operations. He later formalized his maritime training at the Caribbean Maritime University, where he earned key engineering qualifications.
Oshain holds a Marine Engineer License – STCW Reg III/1, along with Basic Safety Training, Advanced Firefighting, Medical Certification, and Security Awareness—credentials that reflect his commitment to safety and reliability aboard.
His professional yachting experience spans several notable vessels, including M/Y Asante (42m), M/Y Excellence (45m), M/Y Formosa (60m), M/Y Mamma Mia (37m), and M/Y Antelope IV (43m). Across these programs, he has developed a reputation for diligence, calm problem-solving, and meticulous systems management.
Oshain’s favorite part of working on a charter yacht is ensuring all onboard systems run flawlessly, contributing to the smooth, enjoyable guest experience that he takes great pride in. His most meaningful life experience has been the birth of his children, and his favorite yachting moments are those when he sees guests having an unforgettable, seamless time on the water.
When he's not in the engine room, Oshain enjoys playing football.
