Jarrad has always had a passion for the ocean as he grew up in a small town called Hermanus, along the coast of South Africa where he spent most of his free time bodyboarding, surfing and swimming in the ocean. He was also a lifeguard over the holiday seasons for two years and then became a lifesaving instructor in his last year of school. He knew this industry would suit him well and therefore got straight into it as soon as he finished school.
