Dunia Baru’s owner challenged Jamal and his team to go beyond the limits
of their artisan skills. Jamal designed many of the stunning details, including
the all-wood door hinges and the detailing of the cabinet doors. When you
ask him which part of Dunia Baru he is most proud of, Jamal unfailingly
replies: “All of it!”

Man began working as boat builder at age 14, assisting to his father and
older brothers. During the construction process, what Man most enjoyed
was stacking wood: a task, he says, that involves the whole team, working
together as one. “Everyone strains to handle the heavy, dense wood, laughs
together and all are happy when the job is done well.”

Captain La Suwu has a longstanding career on the sea, with 19 years experience as a ship officer.
Beginning in 1997, his leadership has spanned a variety of vessels, from Landing Craft Tanks to tugboats to passenger ships. The breadth of his seafaring experience and local knowledge makes him an extremely adept master of
Dunia Baru.
La Suwu joined the crew in May 2015 and he maintains that this is his proudest role yet. “Every ship has her unique characteristics: Dunia Baru is not only strong and safe; she is a modern yacht with all the latest technology, equipment and amenities, with the elegance and beauty of a classic
phinisi.”
Captain La Suwu hoists the sails whenever possible. “There is no more beautiful sight than Dunia Baru with her sails up.”
Guests are always welcome on the bridge. Here you’ll find excellent views of your incredible surroundings and, if you’d like, Captain La Suwu will even let you take a turn steering the vessel (under
his guidance, of course!).

Carl Rousse, Dunia Baru’s Director of Experience, is originally from Quebec, eastern Canada. Carl called Bali home in 2018 after having widely explored Asia's most elusive locations for nearly a decade, including Bhutan, Japan, Burma and, of course Indonesia.
Carl speaks fluent English, French and Indonesian. His meticulous and thoughtful approach, combined with his diverse pursuits in hospitality, wellness and luxury recreations provides guests on Dunia Baru with a holistic and unmatched level of service throughout their voyage.
Being a certified Dive Instructor, Carl has led his guests, with various levels of experience, on captivating dive expeditions across the Indonesian archipelago, including: The Banda Sea; the Moluccas, Sulawesi, Raja Ampat and Komodo National Park. His favourite dive sites are Karang Bayangan and Neptune’s due to their pristine conditions; vibrant soft coral and an abundance of stimulating marine life. It is exploring new reefs though that most fulfils his insatiable desire to discover the unknown.
Carl has always been in and around the water, spending every summer at his family lake house, working as a swimming instructor and lifeguard during his younger years, finally falling in love with scuba diving while at the Great Barrier Reef.
Committed to a life of adventure, he is truly passionate about leading guests on journeys beyond their wildest dreams while crafting memories of emotional proportions. Previously, Carl has worked with resorts
such as Four Seasons, Dusit Thani in the Maldives and onboard AMAN’s vessels: Amandira & Amanikan.

Quentin Carabeux, Dunia Baru’s Cruise Director, is originally from Brittany, France, where a childhood
shaped by the Atlantic instilled in him a lifelong connection to the sea. Freediving and sailing from a young
age, he naturally gravitated toward marine science and a life spent on the water.
Quentin holds a Master’s degree in Marine Biology, specializing in Tropical Marine Ecology, completed in
Guadeloupe. His academic foundation, combined with over a decade of diving experience since the age of
ten, brings depth and authenticity to his leadership onboard.
Following his instructor training in Mozambique, Quentin went on to manage luxury dive operations in
remote destinations worldwide, including the Maldives, multiple regions across Africa, the Caribbean,
Australia, and Indonesia. Most recently, he spent three years based in Nusa Penida, overseeing a high-end
dive centre while contributing to the work of the Marine Megafauna Foundation.
Beyond the ocean, Quentin has worked several grape harvests and winery seasons throughout France,
cultivating a grounded understanding of wine influenced by his family’s Bordeaux heritage — an
appreciation he enjoys sharing with guests onboard.
With a deeply guest-focused approach and a calm, attentive leadership style, Quentin is committed to
creating meaningful connections to both place and people. His passion lies in guiding guests through some
of the world’s most biodiverse waters, blending marine insight, operational excellence, and a genuine love
for life at sea.
