Lana is a Nature Photographer and photography expert. As a biologist, National Geographic Explorer, and nature photographer, she captures landscape and wildlife images —each one telling a compelling story and promoting environmental conservation.
Friendly, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable in her field, Lana loves sharing her expertise. Whether guests are curious about how their camera works or looking to capture the perfect shot, she’s always happy to help. During the guest’s time onboard FREYA, Lana offers engaging lectures on photography and camera equipment and is right there to guide guests in taking stunning photos in the breathtaking part of the world that FREYA cruises.

Giancarlo is a seasoned expedition leader, guide, and nature photographer with a deep passion for the Arctic. With a background in wildlife biology, conservation, and visual storytelling, he brings a unique blend of scientific understanding and creative storytelling to every journey. Whether he's navigating icy fjords or scanning the horizon for wildlife, Giancarlo is dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences for his guests. Aboard FREYA, he’s known for going the extra mile—adjusting course, tracking wildlife, and finding the best vantage points to showcase the wonders of the polar world.

Nils, mostly known as Nisse, has practically grown up at sea in the Stockholm Archipelago. He has spent many summers sailing and teaching others - from sailing dinghies to tall ships, before studying marine biology and thereafter pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marine technology. This is Nisse's first season in arctic waters, after a number of years in more southerly waters on passenger ships and ro-ro and bulk carriers.

With 30 years of experience in sales, customer service, and management across Europe, Karim brings a rich and versatile background to the FREYA team. Fluent in six languages, he expertly connects with international clients
and ensures top-tier service across cultures. Karim has a proven track record in customer engagement, team leadership, and project management, with experience ranging from luxury retail and hospitality to maritime operations.
His passion for people and communication is matched by his dynamic, solution-oriented approach. Beyond the workplace, Karim is an artist, actor, and seasoned sailor—most recently involved in international projects aboard the tall ship Götheborg of Sweden. With a deep understanding of diverse industries and human relations, Karim is a valuable asset to the FREYA family, dedicated to delivering excellence in the Arctic and beyond.

Dan divides his time between working on charter vessels and ships. He has previously been an Officer on the German sailing cargo vessel Avontuur and mastering the three mast schooners on the Swedish west coast which has provided him with ample experience during his career at sea. Onboard FREYA, he takes pride not only in being a reliable and safety-focused Chief Officer but also in crafting an exceptional experience for guests from the moment they arrive.

Erik is the Chief Engineer on FREYA and since 2017, he’s been the vessel’s go-to problem solver. With a knack for fixing anything that breaks, he’s like a wizard in the engine room, conjuring solutions with a smile. Erik is not just skilled, he’s also the friendliest face on board, always up for a chat and loves giving tours of his domain, proudly showcasing the inner workings of the ship. His infectious enthusiasm and willingness to share his passion for engineering make every visit to the engine room an adventure. Life on FREYA wouldn’t be the same without Erik’s cheerful spirit and expertise.

With over 20 years of experience working as an engineer across various ships, including both cargo and passenger vessels, he brings extensive expertise to every project. Mats is an exceptional team player with strong interpersonal skills, making him a valued crew member onboard FREYA.

Meet Captain Bengt Wiman, a seasoned mariner from the island of Gotland, Sweden. Bengt’s journey at sea began in 1974, and over the decades, he has charted an extraordinary course through some of the world’s most remote and challenging waters. In 1989, he made his first voyage to Svalbard—a destination that would become a key part of his sailing legacy. His deep knowledge of Arctic waters and passion for navigation made him a trusted figure in polar expedition circles.
In 2001, Bengt earned the title of captain, a role he has embraced with great pride and dedication ever since. Known for his calm demeanor and sharp instincts, he’s led countless voyages safely and successfully, inspiring both crew and passengers along the way.
When he's not commanding a vessel, Bengt enjoys a very different pace of life back home. A passionate golfer and an active horse racing enthusiast, he also manages a horse racing farm on Gotland. His unique combination of sea captain, sportsman, and horse breeder makes him a truly multifaceted personality.

Sergey studied history and has taken part in several scientific and archaeological expeditions to the remote High Arctic archipelago of Franz Josef Land. Now working as a Expedition Guide, he brings a deep knowledge of Arctic history to every voyage aboard FREYA. With a great sense of humour and a talent for storytelling, Sergey keeps guests engaged while sharing fascinating tales from the past. His passion for conservation and rich historical background make him a truly memorable guide in these wild and beautiful regions.

Jesse trained for three years at the Maritime Culinary School in the Åland Islands. His career as a chef began with six months of service in the Finnish army. Afterward, he joined a passenger ferry that had up to 5,000 guests daily, starting as a Kitchen Assistant and advancing to Head Chef, where he worked for over ten years. He then spent two years on a ro-ro ship sailing in the Mediterranean, with routes including Spain, France, Italy, Libya, and Algeria. Now apart of the FREYA team, he brings a passion for creating tasty dishes from quality ingredients, dedicated to delivering an enjoyable dining experience for everyone on board.
