Maxwell is a New Zealander who, when he is not at sea, lives on the beautiful island of Rarotonga – capital of the Cook Islands where he spent all his ‘formative’ teenage years.
Max has been on or in the ocean his whole life, working first as a commercial diver for the family black pearl business, then as a fisherman in New Zealand, and also as crew on traditional sailing ships in Europe .
It was on a square rigger that he got his first taste of being at the helm and he later transferred this skill into the yachting industry.
Over his more than 30 years at sea, Max has had the privilege of sailing on many of the world’s most spectacular and graceful yachts.
His sense of adventure led him off the beaten track as much as possible, and the Arctic and Antarctic remain some of his most rewarding and inspiring challenges he has experienced in his career so thus far.
These days Max still enjoys small boat sailing, canoeing, climbing mountains, and learning from the many cultures he encounters as he continues to sail the seven seas.
