Captain Nikos Kalafatis was born in 1994 in Athens, Greece, and speaks both Greek and English fluently. Growing up in the coastal suburbs of Athens, he developed a deep connection to the sea from an early age. His sailing journey began as a young child, and by the age of nine, he was already competing in the optimist sailing class. Over the years, he transitioned to competing in 420 and RS:X sailboats, earning numerous accolades. Nikos has participated in both national and international sailing regattas and was a proud member of the Hellenic National Sailing Team in 2008 and 2010. His achievements include winning a silver medal in the Hellenic National Sailing Championship for the 420 class and securing both bronze and silver medals in the RS:X class. His passion for the sea eventually led him to offshore yacht racing, where he has been actively competing in recent years. Nikos started his career as crew on offshore deliveries both in Greece and internationally, progressing to permanent crew positions aboard prestigious superyachts. However, his true calling was in professional sailboat skippering. Over the years, he has completed numerous yacht deliveries and holiday charters on both a national and international scale. He holds an RYA Yachtmaster Offshore License, commercially endorsed for both sail and power-driven vessels, and possesses a valid Seaman’s Book. His extensive experience spans more than five years in yacht maintenance and repair. Notably, he played a key role in organizing a flotilla trip for 106 people in France and captained a power catamaran for the filming of "Gordon Go Greek" with Gordon Ramsay for ITV. Known for his sociable and welcoming nature, Nikos ensures his guests feel at ease while on board, offering both security and an enjoyable experience. Outside of sailing, he enjoys surfing, exercising, and traveling.
