Profile: Born and raised on sheep and game farms in the breathtaking Karoo, South Africa, Barry has always felt grounded by nature and inspired by adventure. Life eventually led him to the ocean, and now, with some years and miles under his belt, Barry is grateful to say he has had the best of both worlds.
After school, Barry studied at the University of Stellenbosch – a place famous not just for its exceptional wines and farm-to-table lifestyle, but also for shaping how he sees the world. He even spent a few months studying winemaking in Germany when he was 21, gaining international experience early on.
Barry’s career began in the corporate world, but after a few years he realised it wasn’t where he felt most alive. That insight led him to pursue a career in yachting – combining his love of travel, the ocean, and hands-on work.
Today, Barry lives in Cape Town, one of the most stunning cities on the planet, filled with rich culture and warm-hearted people. Like many South Africans, he enjoys a good braai (that’s a BBQ, but done properly – with firewood), quality time with family and friends, rugby, and staying active. He loves motorbiking on the farm, diving, kitesurfing, golfing, and exploring new corners of the globe.
At heart, Barry is a kind, positive, and friendly person who genuinely enjoys bringing good energy into every space he is in. He aims to make the people around him feel welcome, appreciated, and smiling.
