Born and raised in Sneek, surrounded by water and a strong sailing culture, life at sea came naturally to him from an early age. With a technical background as a maritime engineer, he was initially involved in the building and design of superyachts before beginning his maritime career in commercial shipping. After spending six months sailing on cargo vessels, he transitioned into the yachting industry.
He started his yachting career as a cadet aboard a 70m luxury charter yacht and, following his graduation, remained onboard as 2nd engineer and later chief officer. Over the past three years at sea, he has gained valuable experience across both the technical and deck operational sides of yachting, while working within a high-standard, guest-focused charter environment.
