Born in Australia with proud British roots, Matthew is a classically trained chef whose culinary journey began at the esteemed Sir William Angliss Institute in Melbourne. Raised in a family where food was not just a necessity but a passion, it was perhaps inevitable that he would find his way to the kitchen. His mother is a gifted home cook, his brother and partner both professional chefs—food has always been the thread that binds his life.
Following his formal training, Matt honed his skills in some of Melbourne’s most celebrated restaurants before taking a leap abroad. A visit to the UK to reconnect with family and friends turned into a five-year culinary exploration. During that time, he worked under the guidance of renowned chefs such as Brett Graham at The Ledbury and Tom Kerridge at The Hand & Flowers. He also spent time in the rugged Scottish Highlands, where he developed a deep appreciation for the provenance of ingredients and the craft of working with some of the UK’s most exceptional produce and livestock.
After a decade immersed in the fast-paced world of fine dining, Matthew discovered the yachting industry—a turning point in both career and lifestyle. In 2014, he joined M/Y SuRi and has since brought his refined yet grounded culinary style to numerous yachts across the globe. His clientele has included some of the world’s most fascinating and inspirational figures, for whom he has crafted meals that balance elegance with authenticity.
With over 20 years in the service industry, Matt has evolved his cooking philosophy to embrace a more traditional approach—meals that are simple, soulful, and ingredient-driven. His focus is on quality produce, health-conscious choices, and letting natural flavors shine through with minimal interference. Whether crafting refined tasting menus or family-style feasts, his food always tells a story rooted in experience, culture, and a genuine love of the craft.
