Italy FAQs

What is included in the charter fee and what are the other expenses I can expect to pay?

All charters in Europe and the Mediteranean are the base charter rate that you see online plus expenses.

What are expenses? While the base price covers the yacht and crew, additional costs such as fuel, food, drinks, mooring fees, port taxes, and communications are billed separately in the form of APA. The APA is a pre-paid amount, typically 20-40% of the charter fee depending on the boat and its used to cover variable expenses such as fuel, food, drinks, and port fees. At the end of the charter, any unused APA is refunded, and any excess expenses are charged to the charterer. Additionally, VAT tax is added to the charter fee and the VAT in Italy is 22%.

Additionally crew gratuity is customarily 10-15% of the base charter fee (APA/VAT excluded).

What types of yachts are available for charter in Italy?

Italy offers a diverse fleet, including:

  • Sailing yachts: Ideal for traditional sailing experiences.

  • Catamarans: Provide stability and spaciousness, great for families.

  • Motor yachts: Offer speed and luxury amenities.

  • Gulets: Traditional wooden vessels, often crewed, combining sailing and motor power.
How do I choose the right yacht and itinerary?

Working with a reputable charter broker is essential. They will consider your preferences, group size, budget, and desired activities to recommend suitable yachts and craft a personalized itinerary, ensuring a memorable experience

What are the main yacht charter regions in Italy?

Italy offers some of the best sailing destinations in the Mediterranean. The four main sailing areas are:

  1. Amalfi Coast: Famous for its dramatic cliffs, picturesque villages like Positano, and crystal-clear waters, perfect for a luxurious sailing experience.
  2. Sardinia: Known for its stunning beaches, clear waters, and the Costa Smeralda, a hotspot for yachts and upscale resorts.
  3. Sicily: A mix of ancient ruins, volcanic landscapes (like Mount Etna), and vibrant local culture, with plenty of islands to explore.
  4. Naples & Capri: Sail around the historic city of Naples, visit the glamorous island of Capri, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Bay of Naples.
