Virgin Islands FAQs

Do I need a passport to visit the US Virgin Islands?

U.S. citizens do not need a passport to visit the USVI, making it an easy domestic charter option but you do need a passport in the British Virgin Islands.

What is included in the charter fee? What is the difference between All inclusive VS plus expenses?

All-Inclusive Charter: An all-inclusive charter includes the yacht rental, crew services (captain, chef, etc.), meals, drinks, fuel, water sports equipment, and some other amenities. It covers almost everything, except for gratuity.

Plus Expenses Charter:
A plus expenses charter means the base price covers the yacht and crew, but additional costs (fuel, food, drinks, mooring fees, etc.) are billed separately. These expenses are in addition to the charter fee and are collected in the form of Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA) which usually around 20-40% of the charter fee, to cover additional expenses (fuel, food, drinks, dockage, etc.). At the end of the charter, any unused APA is refunded, and any additional expenses beyond the APA are charged to the charterer.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht in the Virgin Islands?

Costs vary based on factors like yacht size, yacht type, and age. Crewed charters in the Virgin Islands generally start around $20,000 per week, with luxury options reaching up to $250,000 or more.

How do I get to the Virgin Islands for my charter?

Major airlines offer flights to St. Thomas International Airport (STT) in the U.S. Virgin Islands. From the airports, there are ferries and private water taxis connected to various charter bases in both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. Alternatively, if you are picking up your boat in Tortolla you can choose to fly into (EIS) in Tortolla, BVI.

What activities can I enjoy during my yacht charter in the BVI?

The BVI are ideal for a wide range of activities, including swimming, snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding, and fishing. You can also explore beautiful beaches, hike nature trails, or visit charming local bars and restaurants. Many yachts are equipped with water sports gear, and your crew will be happy to assist in arranging excursions or special activities.
